A popular Korean street food made with chewy rice cakes in a spicy-sweet sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1 pack (200g) Korean rice cakes (tteok)
- 3 cups water
- 1 sheet fish cake (optional, sliced)
- 1 green onion (chopped)
- 1 boiled egg (optional, for topping)
For the Sauce:
- 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
- 1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions:
- Soak the rice cakes in warm water for 10 minutes if they are hard.
- In a pan, boil 3 cups of water and add gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and garlic. Stir well.
- Add the rice cakes and cook for 5-7 minutes until they become soft and the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally.
- Add fish cake slices (if using) and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and drizzle sesame oil.
- Garnish with chopped green onion and a boiled egg (optional).
- Serve warm and enjoy the spicy, chewy goodness
