A popular Korean street food made with chewy rice cakes in a spicy-sweet sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack (200g) Korean rice cakes (tteok)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 sheet fish cake (optional, sliced)
  • 1 green onion (chopped)
  • 1 boiled egg (optional, for topping)
For the Sauce:
  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
  • 1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions:

  1. Soak the rice cakes in warm water for 10 minutes if they are hard.
  2. In a pan, boil 3 cups of water and add gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and garlic. Stir well.
  3. Add the rice cakes and cook for 5-7 minutes until they become soft and the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally.
  4. Add fish cake slices (if using) and cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and drizzle sesame oil.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onion and a boiled egg (optional).
  7. Serve warm and enjoy the spicy, chewy goodness
